Our grandparents and great-grandparents were of a completely different mindset. They knew the value of hard work and of a dollar. They also had some character and morals.
I sent my soldier an Auburn shirt (my fav) and he's a South Carolina fan. I just wanted to see if he'd wear it once. He's worn it to sleep in every day since he got it because he says it smells like me (even after he washes it). One of many reasons why I love him and can't wait for him to come home.
It's amazing how much our parents and grandparents and great-grandparents got done in a day, because they were proud of their work and enjoyed feeling productive, everyone in the family pitched in together, their neighbors worked equally hard and maintained a high standard, and they had no TVs or websites or text messages to distract them.
Your 92 year old Dad, and men like him, is what made America great.
My Husband scared me to death with a hairy fake spider this morning.Never jumped so far in my life.Hope he likes the rubber snake in his brief case.It looks so real.Happy Halloween David.
I knew I was in love with him when I wanted to tell his mother, "Thank you for raising such a wonderful man." His father wasn't there, but she sure did a great job with her children.
We have donated bags of dog food to a Humane Society shelter and it was much appreciated. We took the time to call and ask what variety of dog food they were using so the dogs could get consistent food.
To the wild squirrel/wife unventer, thank you so much for that laugh. I really needed it!
Happiness is a purring kitty on your lap on a cold night.
Surprised my Mom today by dropping by and taking her shopping and out to eat.I'm usually working through the week so it was a real treat for me.
I just prayer for Tripp, I hope he recovers quickly.
I cannot even imagine the terror the people on the coast felt last night.I pray that things will return to normal for them faster than the reporters are saying. It makes our problems look petty doesn't it?I sent a donation to the Red Cross this morning.
Never ever give up on love. I'm 39 and married my first husband out of a sense of responsibility. Thirteen years and three children later, I opted out of that relationship and wondered if I'd be single the rest of my life. Then along came my Prince Charming, at the ripe ol' age of 62. We've been married nearly two years now and I can honestly say I am IN love for the first time in my life. It DOES happen! (I love you, Murphy!)
LORD LAY YOUR HAND DOWN ON TRIPP TO HEAL AND A SPEEDY RECOVERY??AMEN
Most animal shelters will accept unopened food, and all usually take money! Many will also take old blankets and towels, newspapers, etc. I donated a trash can once :o) They will give you a tax-deductible receipt. Bless you!
If you are able to share, please don't forget about Ahimsa House! If you don't know who they are, please look them up. They assist with animals of domestic violence victims that wouldn't otherwise leave for fear of their pet's fate.
Cracklin cornbread and turnip greens with pot liquor. Talk about heaven!!!
Apparently we had a good year for trees to have a bountiful crop of leaves. I have raked our driveway five or six times already and it's still October! Glad the trees are healthy; they needed a good year.
If anyone in Decatur area has firewood for sale, I'd rather buy from private than from the store. My firepit misses me.
Voted today at the Dekalb County Civic Center. Thanks to the cheerful poll workers who got me in and out the door in 15 minutes - even during the pre-work rush. Get your vote in early!
I am so glad that the Lord has been with us during this horrible storm. You can replace houses and cars but think of the millions of people HE spared.Thank you Jesus.
I just love warm homemade bread.I could eat a whole loaf all by myself.
When I was a kid I could watch any horror movie and not be a bit scared. Now that I'm old I watched just one horror movie with my granndson and had nightmares all night long.
My favorite is Taco soup. It can last me more than a week--unless my 24 y/o grandson comes by, and then, it only lasts about 3-4 days, depending on how hungry he is.
I can spend all day watching Animal Planets "Too Cute". I wish I was the type of person who could have a pet. If I ever get a bigger place I will really consider getting 2 kittens.
My only regret is that I don't have the recipe for my great grandmother's chicken and dumplings. All I remember from watching is she didn't measure anything, and used Crisco in them. Please help me replicate this for my mom. I'd like to surprise her at Thanksgiving.
My In-Laws live in NYC.We have been trying to reach them by phone with no luck.I really hope they left their house in time. They are awfully hardheaded when it comes to someone telling them what to do.
I always added a little molasses to my homemade bread, which adds an enticing flavor. Bread is easier to make than you think: you mainly need patience.
I am making some "high octane" chili comfort food for our family's dinner. The house should have a distinct fragrance by about 9:00.
Picked the rest of my Anaheim chili peppers....they are in the freezer ready to make cornbread!
I want YOUR recipe for broccoli cheese soup....haven't found a recipe that I like.
We had reruns Monday night....just like Mom used to do!
