If the damages from superstorm Sandy total roughly $20 billion, why is the bill in the House for over three times that amount? What do fisheries in Alaska and repairs to the Smithsonian have to do with the hurricane?
The Bill for Hurricane Sandy Victims that the Repubs refused to vote on contained $30 billion for Sandy victims and ANOTHER $30 billion for Senators pet projects in places the storm didn't even come close to hitting!!
Our politicians are so irresponsible and self centered they wrote a bunch of PORK into a disaster bill. That's why responsible people didn't vote on it.
Have your read the Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill? It is full of non-emergency pork! Just a Christmas list for these two states and then some others on the East Coast to get them to support the bill. Please know what you are talking about before believing that Republicans have no heart!
I'm a responsible person. I have insurance on my house, my car and personal belongings so if I suffer a loss, I'm covered. Good concept; quit expecting other people to take care of you.
If a deputy sheriff or police officer was under indictment, they would be suspended. How come an indicted sheriff can take office?
Republicans didn't want the hurricane relief bill because it had the usual Democrat PORK in it that would not do anything for the relief. Stop blaming Republicans all the time.
If you dare to criticize the current administration, you are automatically labeled a racist. That's the difference.
So if you choose not to have homeowner insurance that is your choice, but now by law you must have medical insurance? What sense does that make?
Can you name three things that the congressional representative whom you've continued to re-elect has done (or attempted to do) to make life better for you and your family? Be specific.
The Debt Ceiling question boils down to whether Congress will pay back the money they already spent.
You people wanting the rich to be taxed more remind me of my nephew who is constantly asking his parents to pay some of his bills for him.
You act as though "children" have no initiative beyond that of their parents. I was the first in my family to receive a high school diploma, and I earned a B.A. and an M.A. because I wanted the education.
Unfortunately, in our country, you CAN spend more money than you have.
Why do all the plans to get the debt reduced have to be for 10 years? How about NO TAX BREAKS FOR ANYONE for 5 years and cancel all duplicate federal programs. Would you use a 10 year plan to get your credit card balance in line with your income?
Tax breaks for Hollywood, Nascar, rum and coal mining. We do need to clean house soon. The taxpayers and voters in the northeast get nothing to help after the storm. Bring on the elections
How Mitch McConnell went from a reported worth of $3 million to $28, when he's a really bizzy guy in the Senate, is a story I am willing to listen to...
If you are looking for pork in the budget look at defense first. The top 10 salaries of the CEO's of the defense supply companies are higher than the top 10 salaries of the CEO's on Wall Street. This is corporate welfare at its highest.
Can we finally agree the first of the budgets cuts should be the tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to the oil companies.
Obama does not care how much money the government spends because he will just print more. Can't wait to see how that's gonna work out.
More Government Waste: Saw the Senators being sworn in and sign a pledge. Each one got a pen. I think they all could have used the same pen. Waste, Waste ,Waste.
When you look at what America is faced with it seems apparent that our only real hope is with those in Congress who identify with the Tea Party.
Our defense budget has more than doubled to $633 billion in the last 10 years. If you want to look for budget cuts you may want to start here.
Well done, Chambliss, you've gained the vote of a rational independent here!
The Bush tax cuts and the Bush wars cost $4.2 trillion combined. They were not paid for but added to our country's debt.
To the venter moaning about hurricane Sandy relief--the people that received damage and lost all of their possessions in the hurricane and getting screwed by their insurance companies. The companies are claiming the damage is "flood damage" not "hurricane damage". Flood damage is not covered and THAT is why the government is needed to step in.
With Obama's signature the pay raises would not take effect.
As a recipient of both, I realize we will have to take a sharp knife to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to do anything about our debt. But neither party nor the President wants to be the fall guy. This is one time where a secret ballot could save this country from fiscal cliffs and eventual economic ruin.
Governor Christie sure doesn't need any more pork in his part of the Sandy relief bill, he has quite enough for several people.
Senator Chambliss is a hero for signing the cliff bill. Tea Party, go ahead waste your money on a primary. Statesmen/women are found doing the right thing, not the popular thing for those with small minds.
You want to talk about sheep, republicans have convinced many that they should pay a higher tax rate than the top 1%. Apparently most venters think that this is a good idea. Incredible.
The wealthy are also entitled to pay their fair share of taxes, something that they haven't done in more than 10 years.
I can't quite understand how those of you who make less than $50,000 per year think that it is alright for someone like Mitt Romney, who makes more than $25 million per year, to pay a lower tax rate than you. You really drank the Kool Aid.
Correct.....but the 2nd Amendment also specifies a "well-regulated militia", not for every idiot in the country to stockpile automatic weapons.
Another good year for my 401K, thank you President Obama!
The Republican desire for less government would be reasonable if the economy were booming, but throwing people out of work for purely ideological reasons when the economy is struggling simply does not make sense.
Boehner and his tea party rejected Obama's comphensive deal offer so they had to settle for the Senate's deal. Pay attention!
Why are we permitting the Republicans to waste so much of our time, attention, and tax money without ever addressing the real problem: the severe shortfall in revenue which they need to correct?
Nobody resents the rich who EARN their money. But those like the Romney and Kennedy family inherited ALL of theirs. Earn it, keep it. Born to it, ante up cowboy.
