Charleston Shopping

King Street is lined with many special shops and boutiques. The Shops at Charleston Place, 130 Market St., is an upscale complex of top designer-clothing shops (Gucci, Jaeger, Ralph Lauren, and so on). The historic Old City Market, which sprawls across four buildings from Meeting Street to East Bay Street, offers local crafts (including traditional sweetgrass baskets, an art form brought over from Africa by slaves in the 19th c.), antiques, jewelry, tapestries, and even local foodstuffs. The lively State Street Market, just down from the City Market, is another cluster of shops and restaurants.
