Frommer’s Review
The most costly hotel to open in the Caribbean in recent years, the beachfront K-Club brings a chic Italian panache to one of the most far-flung backwaters of the Antilles. The resort opened in 1990, when a planeload of glitterati headed for Barbuda en masse. The K-Club is the “temple in the desert” of Italy’s Krizia Mariuccia Mandelli, whose sports and evening wear empire has grossed a fortune. On site is a boutique stocked with the designer’s latest fashions. The resort is set on more than 80 hectares (200 acres), adjacent to the Beach House . Conceived by Italian architect Gianni Gamondi, the cottages and main clubhouse have roofs supported by a forest of white columns. Accommodations come in a huge range of styles and shapes; a hip island vibe predominates throughout. The Caribbean rattan furnishings include sumptuous beds. Bathrooms have two sinks, a bidet and adjacent shower, and a basket of deluxe toiletries. Rooms also have plenty of space for luggage.
The cuisine is Mediterranean, with an emphasis on Italian specialties and fresh pasta. The chef passionately believes in fresh ingredients, and his food is not only the finest on Barbuda but also tops anything on Antigua.
