UGA Mascot: Georgia's Most Famous Bulldog

Get your daily dose of Uga news

Since 1956, the University of Georgia's mascot has come from a line of solid-white English bulldogs named Uga, owned by Sonny and Cecelia Seiler of Savannah. From Uga I to the newly crowned Uga VII, these bulldogs have earned a place in sports history. Of course, this vaunted title comes with a few perks, including an air-conditioned doghouse, travel by Delta Air Lines to away games, celebrity and a fan base that's paparazzi-like in its obsession.
"People pet him so much his head gets sore, " Seiler once said of his line of Ugas. "He's like a politician who shakes too many hands."
