Tucker DL Deion Roberson is finished for season with injury

12:02 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Tucker defensive tackle Deion Roberson, who has been out since dislocating his left ankle on the second play of the season, found out last week that his rehab will definitely keep him off the field the rest of the season. The 6-foot-3, 258-pound senior had hoped he’d be able to return sometime during the playoffs, but the rehab will be “much longer” than first thought. He’ll now have to settle on watching practices and games from the sidelines and helping the Tigers in other ways, like giving pointers to younger players. “It’s hard to take, but I’ve got to make sure my ankle will be ready for when I get to college,” he said. Roberson said he has two official visits planned: Nov. 22 to Louisville and Jan. 16 to North Carolina State. He said he will reschedule a trip to West Virginia. He had originally planned a trip to Morgantown on Dec. 6, but had to cancel because that’s the same day he will take the SAT. He also has been offered by Memphis, Maryland, East Carolina, Michigan State, Iowa State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama. Clemson is still a possibility, but no offer has been made. “I like the campus, coaches, atmosphere and all of that,” he said, adding that despite Tommy Bowden’s recent resignation he’s still interested in the ACC school. “They’ve recruited me hard, but I’m going to take it day by day and we’ll see what happens.”

Tucker's Roberson out for the season with injury

11:52 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2008

Tucker's Roberson out for the season with injury Tucker defensive end Deion Roberson, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150 list, will miss the rest of the season with a dislocated ankle, his coach said. Roberson suffered the left ankle injury in Tucker’s season-opening 26-12 victory at Brunswick on Aug. 29, when a teammate was blocked into his leg during the game’s second play. Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said Monday that Roberson is expected to make a full recovery. “Anytime a player of that size [6-3, 258] and caliber is lost it affects the team tremendously,” Stephens said. “The loss of Deion is a big blow for a team that could not afford any injuries.” Tucker is 3-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA. Roberson has been offered by Memphis, West Virginia, N.C. State, Louisville, East Carolina, Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama, and has said that he’s not concerned his injury will scare schools away.

Tucker DL Deion Roberson picks five for official visits

12:11 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008

Tucker defensive lineman Deion Roberson said he will make official visits to the following five schools: Tennessee, Florida State, Michigan State, West Virginia and Maryland. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Roberson does not have scholarship offers from Tennessee and Florida State, but he said both of those schools have told him that he is a scholarship candidate and that he most likely will get an offer. Roberson said he had not set up dates for his visits, but will schedule next month. Roberson is a member of the AJC's Georgia Top 150.
