Miller Grove's Stephen Hill picks Central Florida

2:21 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008

Miller Grove receiver Stephen Hill has committed to Central Florida, according to his head coach, Jasper Jewell. The 6-foot-4 Hill is a AJC Georgia 150 selection and is listed by Rivals as the nation's 92nd best receiver. He had 25 catches for 500 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He also had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Jewell said Hill has family in Florida. His relationship with UCF recruiting coordinator David Kelly, a former Georgia Tech assistant who also won a Class AAAA state championship in 1993 as the head coach at Dunwoody, also was a major factor in Hill's decision. "They made a very good impression on him, and he felt comfortable with the school and the coaching staff, " Jewell said. Hill was considering offers from Connecticut, Kent State, Marshall, Miami of Ohio, Richmond and Samford. While he was being recruited by Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Maryland and North Carolina, Jewell said he had "no idea" why none of those SEC or ACC schools offered Hill. "That's a great question, " Jewell said. "A lot of them wanted him to come to their camps, and he did go to the Mississippi State camp, but some previous obligations kept him from attending any others. Maybe that's a reason." Hill was this year's Class AAAA state champion in the long jump and is a standout basketball player for the Wolverines. But Jewell said he committed totally to football this summer. "He's had a great off season, " Jewell said. "We're looking for him to have a really big year for us."
