Lincoln's home away from the White House
The front of Lincoln's Cottage built in the Greek-revival style. Lincoln lived at the cottage in the summers and early fall of 1862, 1863 and 1864. He commuted to the White House in the morning either on horseback or by carriage. It is believed that he distilled his thoughts for the Emancipation Proclamation and worked on drafts of it here.
