Carter's football career
Carter signed with the New York Jets as a free agent after his release from the Cowboys. He appeared in seven games in 2004, including three starts. As a member of the Jets he was placed in the NFL's substance-abuse program and later in rehab. He officially retired from the NFL in 2005. AP
