History of the NHL's Thrashers in Atlanta
1998 - Atlanta Thrashers is announced as the official team name of the new NHL franchise. Former Turner Broadcasting System founder Ted Turner named the team after the brown thrasher, Georgia's state bird. The official team logo is unveiled in April. Associated Press
