A generation ago, Willis Reed was the heart and soul of the New York Knicks. Playing in the 1970 NBA Finals vs. the Lakers, Reed could barely jog due to a torn muscle in his right leg. Such was his pain that he was not expected to play in the decisive Game 7. When he walked onto the court at Madison Square Garden, the fans erupted.
