2003: HIDEKI MATSUI (AL) and DONTRELLE WILLIS (NL) -- Matsui, who was already a star in Japan, nevertheless won the AL award as a Yankees rookie. The weird-throwing Willis, then with Florida, was the NL winner. Willis is now with Detroit. Associated Press
