Players, coaches create PR woes for Braves

Former pitcher John Rocker stirred up controversy in a January 2000 article of Sports Illustrated when he was asked if he would ever play for the New York teams. His response was seen as racist, sexist and homophobic. Although he later apologized, Rocker continued to make controversial statements. He was suspended without pay for the remainder of spring training and the first 28 games of the 2000 season. It was reduced to 14 regular-season games on appeal. AJC file photo
