Say it ain't so: Sports heroes who left Atlanta

Dominique Wilkins, Mr. Atlanta Hawks. The NBA Hall of Famer was acquired by Atlanta in a draft-day trade with the Utah Jazz in 1982. Over the next 12 seasons, he set numerous franchise records. Concerned that they wouldn't be able to re-sign Wilkins in the offseason, the Hawks shocked their fans by trading him to the Clippers at the trade deadline in 1994. He also played for the Celtics, Spurs and Magic before retiring after the 1999 season. Louie Favorite/lfavorite@ajc.com
