BANK FAILURE--Montgomery Bank & Trust in Ailey was closed by the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance on Friday, July 6, 2012. Subsequent to the closure, Ameris Bank, Moultrie, GA acquired all the deposits and certain assets of Montgomery Bank & Trust from the FDIC as Receiver. An investment adviser who had a stake in the bank is accused of misappropriating millions of dollars from the bank and bilking investors in other investment partnerships to the tune of $40 million.
