GRANDMOTHERLY ASSIST--"Stick out your tongue," Thayer Garrett says as she prompts Kenneth while brushing his teeth. It's a little after 6am, and she's getting her four year old grandson, Kenneth Garrett II ready for school. Thayer Garrett has been taking care of her toddler-age grandson since his father died. The boy's mother asked her to keep him for a few months...that was a year ago. Georgia has seen a 78 percent rise of children living with relatives over the past decade. BOB ANDRES / BANDRES@AJC.COM
