A LONG AWAITED HONOR-- Melanie Curtis, her father Johnson W. "Dub" Brown, 87, a World War II veteran who took part in the D-Day invasion of France, and his wife Doris watch a flag-folding ceremony as Brown was honored Monday, April 16, 2012 at Cumming City Hall. Brown was awarded eight medals, including the Navy Commendation Medal, for his service in the war. On D-Day, nearly 68 years ago, he helped rescue a battered landing craft and pull wounded soldiers to safety on Omaha Beach. Bita Honarvar bhonarvar@ajc.com
