COLD SURF--Dan Gray heads out to join other surfers at Sandy Beach to catch a ride Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, in Sitka, Alaska. About a dozen surfers were at the beach in the storm-driven surf. Waves as high as 23 feet were measured at the Cape Edgecumbe weather buoy on Monday. Water temperature was around 44 degrees F, about 10 degrees F warmer than air temperature.
