Timeline: Clayton schools lose accreditation
A new superintendent was hired in an effort to head off the crisis. During his first day on the job, April 28, corrective Clayton County School Superintendent John Thompson toured Lovejoy High School and met with students, including senior Sonequa Hutchison, 17. His contract, approved by the school board, called for $285,000 a year -- or $1,187.50 a day. It grants him the option to spend 107 of his 240 workdays -- on vacation, holiday or doing consulting work. Jessica McGowan / jmcgowan@ajc.com
