Falcons make a home in Atlanta
A pair of 4-week-old male peregrine falcon nestlings snuggle together nose to nose as they await feeding time on May 13, 2010. Because of eggshell thinning from pesticides, eastern populations of the peregrine were eliminated from the wild in the 1940s. The last known wild nest in Georgia was in Cloudland Canyon. Regulations on pesticides and the reintroduction of the birds have helped produce a slow comeback. Curtis Compton, ccompton@ajc.com
