Falcons make a home in Atlanta
Kate, a female peregrine falcon named after film star Katharine Hepburn, dives from the top of the SunTrust Plaza, the second-tallest skyscraper in Atlanta, which rises 871 feet, on February 3, 2010. The peregrine falcon is well known for being possibly the fastest animal in the world, capable of attaining speeds in excess of 200 mph in a dive. This speed is put to use pursuing and capturing in flight birds that compose the peregrine's diet. Curtis Compton, ccompton@ajc.com
