The Martin Luther King Memorial
The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts said in an April 2007 letter that the then-proposed statue of King looked "confrontational" with King emerging from a chunk of granite, arms folded across his chest, gazing intently. The design has since been changed to include "a softening of King." MLK National Memorial Foundation
