Whale shark gatherings
Scientists believe that gatherings of up to 100 giant whale sharks occur with clockwork regularity in the northern Gulf of Mexico off the coasts of Mississippi and Louisiana. Whale sharks are the largest shark and can grow to more than 45 feet long. Courtesy of Fred Anderson
