Leo Frank was convicted for the 1913 killing of Mary Phagan. However, Gov. John Slaton doubted Frank's guilt and commuted his death sentence to life. That led to vigilantes abducting Frank from prison and lynching him in Marietta. The act inspired Ku Klux Klan and the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith used the case as a rallying tool.
