D-Day Memorial in Druid Hills
"Saving Private Ryan" inspired Maddlone to create the memorial. He said many veterans couldn't see the original in France, so he decided to make a small replica. The American Battle Monuments Commission gave him details of the Normandy cemetery: the size of the markers, the spacing, the precise way the names are displayed. Mikki K. Harris/AJC
