Summer safety tips for the family

The incidence of children dying from heat-related illnesses while being left unattended in the car rises in the summer. With the current trend of turning an infant's car seat backwards, it is harder for a parent to see their little one, especially if the child is sleeping. Try placing the child behind the front passenger seat. Get in the habit of checking the back seat of your car every time you exit your vehicle. Have your daycare provider call if your child doesn't arrive at the facility. Kimberly Smith/AJC Staff File
