American Dream: Battling through tough times
Shaneka Williams, 18, instructs her charges at at Advocares Child Services in Stone Mountain. She has had trouble finding full-time employment and is attending online classes at Georgia Perimeter's Clarkston campus. She's essentially on her own in paying for college. Her mom is out of work after trying to launch a cleaning business. That went bust. Her dad is an engineer but his work is not doing so well either given the times. Joey Ivansco / jivansco@ajc.com
