Year-in-Review: July deaths

Anne Armstrong's life will be remembered as a series of firsts: 1. The first woman ambassador to Great Britain. 2. The first female counselor to the President, both under the Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon. 3. The first female from either major party to be keynote speaker at a national political convention. At the 1976 GOP convention, there was an effort to put her on the ticket as Ford's vice president. Armstrong passed away on July 30. Associated Press
