Estelle Getty's career can be summed up in two words: Sophia Petrillo. Her performance as the sarcastic octogenarian on "The Golden Girls" captured the hearts of Americans in the late 80s. Audiences loved the verbal zingers Getty would hurl at other characters. The show culminated a long struggle during which Getty worked office jobs to help support her family while she tried to make it as a stage actress. She passed away on July 2 from advanced dementia.
