How to carve a pumpkin
Nothing signifies the spooky season more than the bright orange head of a pumpkin on your doorstep. One of the hardest parts of carving a pumpkin is that first knife stroke into the squash's hard flesh. Use a sharp, clean chef or utility knife and strong downward strokes. Balance the pumpkin with your free hand, but keep it and fingers away from the blade. KIM SMITH / ksmith@ajc.com
