No hot meals for prisoners
For five weeks, the Clayton County jail has been unable to serve hot meals because of broken equipment in the kitchen, Sheriff Kem Kimbrough said. On Monday, the AJC toured the jail with the sheriff and learned that the jail has been without four ovens and three skillets for about a year. Five weeks ago, the jail’s three kettles, which are used to cook rice and pasta, also went out.

Swindall seeks to oust flea market tenants
ormer U.S. Congressman Pat Swindall has been leasing the Discount Mall (2660 Godby Rd, Atlanta) in south Fulton County, and sub-letting booths to vendors there. His lease is up with TJ Maxx and gave the merchants renting from him until Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 7a.m to vacate. He said he would have the 100-something merchants kicked out, but the Fulton County Codes enforcement officer said Swindall will face sanctions should he try to kick the people out w/o a permit.

Veterans Day: Band of Brothers
A group of 10 soldiers from the Georgia Army National Guard long range surveillance unit are on a quest to commemorate the 100-plus mile march made by Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division in preparation of WWII .
