Veterans Day: Band of Brothers
A group of 10 soldiers from the Georgia Army National Guard long range surveillance unit are on a quest to commemorate the 100-plus mile march made by Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division in preparation of WWII . The march, which started in Toccoa, Ga., will end in Atlanta, where they will participate in Saturday's Veteran's day Parade.

Hunger behind vacancy signs
Davida Baker started feeding a single homeless family in Gwinnett about 10 years ago. Davida progressed to feeding this summer about 300 homeless teenagers daily, who are living in GWX hotels. She and her volunteers pack meals every day, deliver them to the hotels, which are used in place of homeless shelters in the burbs. The kids don't get their free school lunches, so are stuck during the summer.
Alexander Park opens in Lawrenceville
Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation will open Alexander Park in Lawrenceville during a grand opening celebration this coming Saturday at its pavilion area starting at 10 am with ribbon-cutting ceremony. At 9 am there will be a 2-mile Fun Run to benefit the Gwinnett YMCA. There will also be free kids activities and disc golf tournament. The park features an 18-hole disc golf course, horseshoe pit area, one-mile soft surface trail, Lakeview piers, 3.7-mile paved multi-purpose trail, outdoor classroom, playground and pavilions.
