Lithonia's political "mess"
Lithonia's political "mess"
ours after he was fired by Lithonia Mayor Joyce McKibben, police Chief Willie Rosser (CQ)(shown here Tuesday morning arriving for work at Police headquarters) was reinstated by the city council in a chaotic meeting Monday night, according to television news reports. Earlier in the meeting, McKibben had Rosser escorted out of the council meeting and then adjourned the meeting over the protests of citizens. The council, which had left the meeting to meet privately in executive session, returned and announced it had voted to reinstate Rosser. The council asked McKibben's transition team to leave the meeting, but the team locked itself inside city hall. Police eventually gained entry to the building and escorted the team members out. After that, a locksmith was called in to change the building's locks. Earlier Monday, McKibben declined to disclose specifics of why she fired Rosser. "I took action I believe is in the best interest of the city, " she said. "I can't say any more because it is a personnel issue." The firing is the latest trouble for the small southeast DeKalb County city.
